Set Up Mail Account in Mozilla Thunderbird

Open Mozilla Thunderbird

If a window similar to the first image below appears, skip to the next step. If it does not, you'll have to click on Tools > Account Settings... and then click on Add Account (shown in 2nd and 3rd images below) as this will take you to the window shown below.

Click on Next

Fill in your name, your email address and click Next as shown below.

Make sure POP is selected and set your Incoming Server to mail.YourDomain.com (YourDomain.com represents everything after the "@" sign in your email address). Furthermore, check the box that says Use Global Inbox... if it's not already checked. Once finished, click Next.

Incoming User Name should be your full email address as shown below. Click Next when finished.

The Account Name, shown below, can be anything you'd like and is normally already filled out at this point.
Click Next when done.

Verify your settings, uncheck the box that says Download messages now and click Finish when complete.

If you've clicked Finish, and you're not already looking at the Account Settings window, get back to it by clicking Tools > Account Settings... in the main Thunderbird window.

Click on Composition & Addressing in the left pane, listed under your account name. Be default, Automatically quote the original message when replying is set to start my reply below the quote. Most prefer it to be set to start my reply above the quote as shown below.

Click on Junk Settings in the left pane, listed under your account name. You may want to check the following 2 boxes and verify their settings: Trust junk mail headers sent by....SpamAssassin & Move new junk messages to....Junk folder on Local Folders.

These settings can be changed at any time and will not effect Thunderbird's ability to send and receive mail.

Click on Junk Settings in the left pane, listed under Local Folders (shown below). These setting should be set the same as above.

Click on Outgoing Server in the left pane & highlight your account's outgoing server. Click Edit... It should give you a window similar to that below. Make sure the settings shown below match your settings. Obviously the Server Name would be your outgoing mail server and the User Name would be your email address. Once done, click OK on all remaining windows.

In the main Thunderbird window, click on Tools > Options as seen below.

In the main options window, go to Composition > General and set the Forward messages section to Inline as shown below. If you don't do this, all mail forwarded from your computer will be sent as an attachment.

In the main options window, go to Privacy > Junk. Check off When I mark messages as junk... move them to the account's "Junk" folder and check off Mark messages determined to be Junk as read as seen below. Then click OK.

Mail Test
